How is that proof? It’s vaguely the same concept that everyone has joked about for the last 10 years or so…if anything, they’re both unoriginal hacks for just working on the same “California has immigration problems” bit. Personally, I would have gone with a different approach and suggest they relocate the most aggressive drivers from Dallas Texas and let them just drive along the roads near the boarder…they’ll stop way more Mexicans than a wall would.
That really wasn’t that amazingly close, except for when he said “Who is going to build it.” The link is tenuous at best. Plus, the funniest part was his plan to keep them out. I’m no fan of Mencia, but there are easier ways to destroy his credibility.
In a court of law, that would defintely constitute “reasonable doubt” and Mencia would walk away with a not guilty verdict. Sure, the bits are similar, but considering that the premise is somewhat obvious and simple [which is not to say it's a bad joke, it's great], it is n conceivable that they both had the same idea. Now, had Mencia heared the comic’s joke, which ostensibly he was the first to perform, [an assumption made by the video]Mencia would have been irresponsible to perform his bit. Ultimately, this is thorougly inconclusive and prooves nothing.

The clips are no good. I heard Carlos do the joke before and whether Ari was first at it, it doesn’t matter. A simple, unoriginal joke that I’ve heard other comics use before. Nothing new is brought to the premise by either comic. If Carlos has stole jokes as comedians like Rogan and Lopez have said (which I believe it is possible) then you cannot have his back. Have his back because you feel there is no chance that he ever did that. But I hate how I have heard stuff like “it doesn’t matter as long as he’s funny” amoung other things. i have heard that same premise and punch line by at least two OTHER comedians – it was funny the first time, but even then it was far too obvious. My guess would be that thousands of people who aren’t even comedians have “created” that joke.

I think Gabbs is right on target with that point of view. Also, when someone says that its “just a joke” they aren’t taking into consideration that people are trying to make a living by using the material that they are coming up with. For one professional comedian to steal another professional comedian’s material is like your co-worker claiming to your boss that completed some task, when its really you that actually put the work into it. He gets the raise because he stole the credit. Sure, a joke is just a joke. Thats why when we hear a funny one, whats the first thing we do? We go out and tell someone else! But if someone was getting paid to come up with jokes, it would be stealing if one comedian took the jokes someone else was using and used them in his act. And thats whats happened here. Now everyone seems to think that its all about this one joke. But apparently, Carlos/Ned has built his whole act on other people’s material. Maybe Carlos/Ned has the ability to TELL a joke with the right delivery and timing, but that doesn’t give him an excuse to steal other’s material. This is people’s income’s that he’s messing with. That’s what makes it so under-handed. A comedian works hard to come up with a joke and to hone it and find a way to deliver it just right. It may take numerous times in front of an audience to try and tell it until a comedian can make the joke work. He makes a stand-up routine like this, working hard to hone it and make it funny so he can get jobs and get a paycheck and pay bills and feed himself and his family. Here comes Carlos Mencia, watches this comedian, steals his jokes that he worked so hard to think up and practice delivering, and makes like he himself thought them all up.
Now, when that lesser-known comedian goes out and attempts to do his original material that he himself though up, people will think he’s stealing from Carlos, because they already saw Carlos doing the same jokes on TV. Now the lesser-known comedian losses gigs because people think that he copies the “big time” comedians, and losses money because of it. And thats how it goes.
Now maybe it is more clear to you why Carlos is seen as such a scumbag by other hard-working comedians.

Well I’m 2nd generation Mexican-American and I really don’t care about Carlos/Ned not being a real Mexican. He’s never claimed to be Mexican. He even said he’s Honduran right on his show. But even more than that, we live in America and the majority of people looking at Carlos will automatically assume he’s Mexican/Cuban/Latino and he would be treated like one. So what if he’s not from Mexico, here in America, he is treated like one. And isn’t that what really matters?
Oh and on the joke stealing…Only a handful of GOOD commedians have never stolen a joke (if any). Presentation and delivery are as important or even more important than the joke itself.

He created the fake name Carlos Mencia to help his efforts get a following from the large Mexican population of Los Angeles. While a good performer, he steals material from other comics all the time. Some comics refuse to go on stage if Ned “Carlos” is in the room becuase of his reputation for stealing material.
