So I have known this for awhile.. The word on the street is Comedian Dane Cook stole a bunch of jokes from more gooder comedian Louis CK. I had heard at one point that Louie was even going to sue.. maybe HBO calmed some oceans.. maybe that was just gossip, but leave it to whackbagger FROGACUDA to put together something that I havent had time to do.. a comparison of the Louie 2001 cd and a Dane 2003 show.. yes all those were from the same show. Dane did three similar jokes, in the same set, all found on Louie’s 2001 cd. Smoke? Fire? Speak you mind in the comments.

i like Dane Cook, not the whole ‘guy humor’ but i still laugh out loud on my ipod…much to the annoyance of my family. But I first heard Dane Cook when he was on Comedy Central and later was Jim Gaffigan-what ever happened to him? But they both talked about growing up in a Catholic family and jobs. Even though they mentioned the same things such as peace, nobody would think that they copied eachother. Obviously I’m biased, but think how many different you’ve heard the same old jokes.

I don’t see Dane’s appeal, or the appeal of monkeys, for that matter. Louis CK, I could give a shit less about, but if he has his material stolen, then he has every right to take Dane to court. Plagiarism is plagiarism, no matter how different or well-done the delivery is. If you write or make art, and your pieces are original, how would you feel if someone popped up with a bunch of all your shit raped of the feelings and effort you put into making it? Now imagine that you make a living off of it, and someone does the same thing. That’s pretty much the same thing as going on glorified welfare; making a living off the sweat of another man’s brow. If Dane’s a parasite, he’s a parasite. Stop kissing his ass.

Okay, I see the guy on the bicycle thing being sketchy…I wouldn’t really say it’s the same joke though. I don’t know if what was on that clip was the 2001 guy’s whole bit, but Dane’s was like 5 minutes long, and there was a lot more to it than just that.

On a daily basis, everyone hears all kinds of funny things and jokes and hundreds and thousands of little things…and sometimes, we regurgitate them later as our own, maybe not even remembering that we heard it somewhere. We process so much information every day that sometimes it’s hard to separate your own thoughts from the jumble of stuff floating in and out of our ears.
People just like to try to tear other people down for being successful. It’s called jealousy…Dane Cook was in People’s top 100 Influential people in the WORLD. Of course people want to make it seem like oh, he’s not all that great because of this that and the other. Why look at 3 things that may or may not have been “taken” from someone else instead of looking at HUNDREDS of jokes that are funny and that most people appreciate him for?
While most jokes have been done in some capacity before, there is original material, especially now that so many things are no longer taboo.
It is wrong to steal from comedians, and In Dane’s defense, he shifted the jokes so they were similar without being exactly the same, but to have 3 such similar jokes, all from one CD of another guy…. not looking too cool.
The problem here is Louis CK is a different type of comedian, who always tells jokes as if he was a normal married man, who has had enough and is finally being honest. So a joke about naming a kid an odd name is funny when you are a parent, but as a twenty something wannabe-rockstar (and Dane Cook has repeatedly said he is, I swear to god Cook fans don’t bitch), it just come off as ignorant.
Cook can be funny, but he’s always is doing jokes that feel like they were left out of Billy Madison, and it gets old. It gets even older to read “ZOMg, ur fail, DANE= BAMF!!!”, so Cook fans who want him to be respected, you could help by not being such d-bags.

There’s no comparison, Dane’s clearly funnier. I have been a huge Dane Cook fan for years, but at least I’m not so arrogant and unobservant to say “His version is clearly funnier.” I laughed at Louis CK’s version far more (maybe because I’ve heard the Dane version a million times, or maybe because I’m in pure shock at the apparent lack of respect for his creativity.)
And here’s another example for you. Let’s say you wrote a paper for school, and worked extremely hard on it. Or maybe you wrote a story and it was your creative masterpiece. Then someone steals it, changes the adjectives and sentence structure around, and then releases it as their own. Then, when you call them out on stealing your ideas, everyone says “Dude, their version is totally better, so who cares if they stole it!” or “whoever jhonny wheeping willow is complaining about him shut the hell up!!” (see above for these intelligent comments)
Please have some common sense. I understand that we all love Dane Cook, and his delivery is cool and what not. He has great stage presence. All that is fine and dandy, but this isn’t about who tells the joke better, this is about who WROTE the joke and who STOLE the joke. Please don’t be so ignorant people!
Listen to what makes you laugh. If you think Louis CK is funnier, then listen to him. If you think Dane Cook is funnier, then listen to him. It’s that simple.
